This week Randy Jones, USMLM 85-88, released his first cold war novel, Pendulum, with a foreword by fellow Mission member, MG (retired) Mike Ennis. Pendulum is historical fiction based on actual events leading up to the signing of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. The book’s main character, Major Matt Bollard and the United States Military Liaison Mission (USMLM) are pitted against the Soviet forces in East Germany, amid a Soviet military conspiracy against its own political apparatus. Author Randy Jones said he thought the story would be “… great fiction and allow for the opportunity to bring the mission of USMLM to the story.” To our fellow Mission members considering such books, he offered some advice. “I think the important thing to remember for anyone interested in writing this type of work is to ensure a Defense Security Review. It is not difficult and I found the Defense Security Services very responsive.” Pendulum is available now in hardbound and paperback at Amazon under ‘recent releases’, (Pendulum, Randal R. Jones). It will be available in the coming weeks on Kindle, Nook and iBook.
